2. Introduction:
5′-Adenylic Acid, also known as 5′-adenylate, is a nucleotide used as a monomer in RNA. It is an ester of phosphoric acid and nucleoside adenosine which does not have the typical high energy bond of the so-called adenosine monophosphate (“AMP”) produced upon hydrolysis of ATP. AMP consists of a phosphate group, a sugar ribose, and a nucleobase adenine. As a substituent, 5′-adenylic acid takes the form of the prefix adenylyl-.
