DESCRIPTION
Rutin /Sophorae japonica extract, like quercetin, is a glycoside of flavonoid quercetin. Therefore, the chemical structures of the two are very similar, and there are differences in the hydroxyl functional groups. Both quercetin and rutin are used as vascular protection drugs in many countries and are a component of many multivitamin preparations and herbs. Rutin is also an antioxidant; it is found to be the strongest compared to quercetin, acacia, morin, hispidulin, hesperidin and naringin.
Rutin /Sophorae japonica extract has a strong antioxidant effect. Rutin can also chelate metal ions, such as iron, to reduce the Fenton reaction (which produces harmful oxygen free radicals). Rutin also seems to stabilize vitamin C. If rutin is taken with vitamin C, the activity of ascorbic acid will increase. Rutin is important because it strengthens capillaries and helps people who are prone to bruises or bleeding.
