Citicoline(CDP Choline) is a precursor of phosphatidylcholine. As a type of phospholipid, phosphatidylcholine is an important component of cell membranes. When taken orally, Citicoline(CDP Choline) is metabolized to yield the free nucleotide,uridine and choline. Uridine and choline cross the blood-brain barrier,become incorporated into brain membrane phospholipids and increase the production of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system, including the synthesis of acetylcholine, noradrenaline and dopamine. In the brain, Citicoline(CDP Choline) stabilizes the cell membranes and inhibits the formation of cytotoxic free fatty acids.

Function

Citicoline can reduce the resistance of blood vessel of brain and accelerate substance metabolism of brain. It also can activate the mechanism of reticular formation of brain stem. It can be used in the therapy of acute craniocerebral trauma and disturbance of consciousness after brain operation.
